Because our country doesn’t believe in funding schools, much less funding music in schools, her program was cut and instead of teaching band she is teaching general music to 5th and 6th graders. The school doesn’t provide her with instruments so she’s been bringing in her own, teaching the kids to play as many instruments as possible. With the help of my dad she built these drums from scratch. On her own time, with her own money. She is using them to teach the kids the basics of African drumming. The kids get to make the artwork that goes on the sides of them. I just want everyone to know that my mom is an incredible human being.  it’s nice to know that some teachers don’t give up, especially when it seems like the government has.
